A MUST-ATTEND EVENT FOR JAZZ AND IMPROVISED MUSIC
The Rentrée Grands Formats is the federation’s annual gathering, a must-attend meeting for professionals of the jazz and improvised music industry and all music lovers. Come discover the extraordinary vividness of big band music !
Each year in autumn, the federation joins forces with a venue or festival to organize a launching event comprising several big band concerts, a professional conference and cultural or educational activities.
For a month, the Rentree will then feature more than fifty concerts throughout France and Europe. Look around, there is necessarily a big band concert near you !

Next Rentrée Grands Formats from 25 october to 24 november
2025 edition
The Rentrée Grands Formats 2025 took place from 3 October to 13 November, with a total of more than 70 concerts and nearly 300 artists from the federation’s collectives and large ensembles performing in France and Europe.
The highlight was hosted by Le Petit Faucheux in Tours on 9 and 10 October, with concerts by Mejiro and the Healing Orchestra, a C’est la Jazz Life jam session and the traditional general meeting of Grands Formats members.
2024 edition
The 2024 Large Format Season ran from 4 October to 14 November! More than 60 concerts took place across France and Europe, allowing audiences to discover the vitality of jazz and improvised music in large format.
The 2024 Grand Formats Season ended with an exceptional highlight in Nantes on 12, 13 and 14 November 2024, in partnership with Pannonica, La Soufflerie de Rezé and the Nantes Conservatoire.
2023 edition
The 2023 Rentrée Grands Formats took place from 12 October to 16 December for a 17th edition that marked the federation’s 20th anniversary. For nearly two months, almost ninety jazz and improvised music concerts were held in France, Europe and beyond!
La Rentrée Grands Formats 2023 ended with an exceptional highlight in Paris on 15 and 16 December 2023, in partnership with the Médiathèque Musicale de Paris, Radio France / France Musique and the CRR de Paris.
2022 edition
La Rentrée 2022 took place from 25 October to 25 November in France and Europe, with nearly 60 jazz and improvised music concerts. The highlight of the event took place on 23 and 24 November in Aix-en-Provence and was organised in partnership with Le Petit Duc and the Théâtre du Bois de l’Aune. The programme included Initiative H, Alexandre Herer/Juliette Meyer, Daumenkino Trio, Theorem of Joy, and more.

Launch event in Saint-et-Marne in partnership with La Ferme du Buisson – scène nationale de Marne-la-Vallée, Les Passerelles of Pontault-Combault, the network of conservatories of Paris-Vallée de la Marne, the collective Printemps du Jazz and the city of Noisiel. Featured bands : Orchestre National de Jazz, Pierre Bertrand & La Caja Negra and Laurent Mignard Duke Orchestra.
2019 edition
Launch event in Brest (29) in partnership with Le Quartz, Scène nationale de Brest and the Atlantique Jazz Festival. Featured bands : Aum Grand Ensemble, Grand Ensemble KOA and The Amazing Keystone Big Band.
2018 edition
Launch event in Reims (51) in partnership with Reims Sunnyside Festival. Featured bands : Le Sonart – David Chevallier, Alban Darche & l’Orphicube and Orchestre Franck Tortiller.
2017 edition
Launch event in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (78) in partnership with Le Théâtre de Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines – Scène nationale. Featured bands : Print and Friends, Loïc Lantoine & le Very Big Expérimental Toubifri Orchestra and Fred Pallem & le Sacre du Tympan.
2016 edition
Launch event in Nevers (58) in partnership with D’Jazz Nevers Festival. Featured bands : Acoustic Lousadzak and Ensemble Nautilis.
2015 edition
Launch event in Paris (75) in partnership with La Philharmonie de Paris. Featured bands : Ping Machine, Jean Marie Machado Danzas and Les Musiques à Ouïr.
