Poems and Letters is a new concert composed by Oskari Siirtola for Sointi Jazz Orchestra and vocal soloist Selma Savolainen.
The work explores the nature of artistry during the early stages of modernism at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, drawing on the writings of visual artists from the era. Musically, the concert blends modern jazz with influences from art and popular music. Rich tonal colors, layered textures, and the spontaneous energy of jazz improvisation reflect the bold expression and palette of the modernists. The soloist is one of the rising stars of Finnish jazz, vocalist-composer Selma Savolainen, whose album Horror Vacui was awarded the 2024 Jazz Emma. The piece will premiere in Helsinki on October 8 and in Turku on October 10, 2025.
