Saturday 5 April THE BLUE SHROUD will perform Barry Guy’s compositions in Dublin New Music Festival!
Complex contemporary composition, improvisation and adventurous jazz, combine with baroque melody, along with resonant texts. Based on Pablo Picasso’s masterpiece « Guernica, » the piece is inspired not only by the painting but also by what happened when the United States propounded a false justification for war in 2003, at the United Nations in New York. A tapestry of « Guernica » hung there, but fearing it would draw attention to the likely outcome of US actions, it was obscured by a blue drape, the blue shroud of the title. Sadly with the relentless targeting of civilians in Israel, Gaza, Ukraine, Lebanon and elsewhere, its topicality remains undiminished.
