Flame Jazz Records released Sointi Jazz Orchestra’s sixth studio album, Jäähyväiset (Farewell), on October 4, 2024. The album consists of eight compositions by the band’s founder Rasmus Soini. Compositions have been inspired by the wonders of nature and the conflicting relationship between nature and humans. On the album, the 18-member Sointi Jazz Orchestra line-up is joined by guests including Lauri Wuolio (cupola), Nihkee (spoken word) and Aili Ikonen (vocals).
Jäähyväiset expands the boundaries of traditional jazz orchestral expression with interesting instrumentation and magnificent mixes. Influences from different musical styles can be heard as the band explores the limits of jazz orchestral music and beyond. SJO’s trademark colorful arrangements and abundant use of replacement instruments are also strongly present on the new album.
Sointi Jazz Orchestra will play three album release concerts in Finland in May. The concerts will be in Savonlinna (16.5.), Outokumpu (17.5.) and Espoo (22.5.).
