Driven by guitarist and composer Pascal Charrier, Kami was born as a quintet in 2014. After two albums and many collaborations, in 2017 the project became an octet. Still focusing on rhythmic and trance, the natural acoustic timbres of the instruments have opened up new soundscapes and orchestrations. It brings together musicians hailing from contemporary jazz to improvisation around a poetic aim. The work of Kami Octet also bears a dramaturgy and brings a particular attention to sound diffusion. The balance between written and improvised parts places the music in the footsteps of the great Jazz and Free Music orchestras. The album Spring Party (2017) lead us into a character’s transformations and imaginary landscapes. Its follower (TBR in 2021), is inspired by american social history in which jazz, as a witness of the popular History, has sprung.
