The Clasijazz Big Band was born within the framework of the Clasijazz Project as one of the flagships of this association, pioneering in Spain and spreading from day one the message of Jazz, music and art generally speaking. The band was created in 2010 bringing together local musicians with external reinforcements and has today evolved into a permanent staff featuring some of the best Jazz musicians on the national and international scene.
In 2020, despite the difficulties that Covid19 implied to the cultural sector, the Clasijazz Big Band developed the “Clasijazz Big Band Pro” Project, which brought together the 17 musicians living together for 6 months, rehearsing, training and performing uninterruptedly every week both at Clasijazz headquarters and on tour. This project demonstrated the socio-cultural richness and varied applications provided by having a formation such as the Big Band on a stable basis in a city. For 6 months this formation performed more than 20 different repertoires with guest conductors, in addition to conducting masterclasses and educational concerts.
Currently, the Clasijazz Big Band continues its path based on regular encounters, reaching day-by-day higher musical standards and international projection, with superb collaborations with internationally renowned musicians such as María Schneider (USA), Itiberé Zwarg (BR), or Jorge Pardo (SP).
