Once again this year Grands Formats will be attending jazzahead! in Bremen from April 11 to 13, and we are looking forward to meet our European members and partners there !
As part of Jazzahead! Conference program, VJME (Voice for Jazz Musicians in Europe) will host a panel on Activism, Diversity & Education on April 12 from 14:00 to 14:45.
In this panel, VJME will discuss the diversity of the jazz and improvised music higher education population in some European countries. Together, they significantly represent the future of jazz and improvised music across Europe. Our data reveals that undergraduate and postgraduate jazz and improvised music student bodies in Europe differ from country to country and that we still have to learn much from each other. Above all, we must pay more attention to talent from neighbouring countries. Those talents result from the growth of young students, which is vital for the longevity of jazz and improvised music in Europe as part of each country’s ecosystem and European jazz overall.
Speakers :
Erwan Vernay (Chief delegate at Grands Formats / VJME’s Secretary),
Fleurine Verloop-Meldhau (President of VJME / BiMpro / musician – NL),
Pedro Cravinho (Vice president of VJME / Portugal Jazz – PT/ES),
Michela Lombardi (Musicisti Italiani di Jazz / member of the board of VJME – IT)
